Okay, so I'm going to try something new. We've lived in a fairly major city (St. Louis) for almost 5 years now and there is still so much to do here that I've never done because I know I can always do it later. Before I know it, later is going to have come and gone and I'm going to wish we'd done all those things.
So, I'm going to become a tourist in my own town. Every week I'll come back and post one cool thing about this great area in which we live. I'd love it if you would join me for the adventure! Let's help each other explore the whole world through each other's eyes!
I'm going to start this adventure on Tuesday. If you post something on your blog, let me know and I'll make a list with your links (I doubt this will get big enough to warrant a "Mr. Linky" or anything, but if it does, I'll figure that out then). Just leave your link in the comments and I'll add it to the main page.
Happy travels!

This is such a great idea! I live in a smaller community so there isn’t quite as much to do, but we recently went to a great local museum when my in-laws were in town. Although we’ve lived here eight months, we hadn’t made it to the museum till last weekend. I’m sure there are other local gems just waiting to be discovered!
Thanks, Jenni! I’m hoping others will not feel limited by small towns – there’s just so much we really can do everywhere we are. I’m hoping to discover new parks, maybe some new restaurants, and of course all the great free stuff St. Louis has to offer!
We’ve lived here five years and only just a couple of months ago visited the Arch! I need to do the same thing – you’ve inspired me!
Fun! You know, I’ve lived in San Antonio for 20 years and this year was the first time that I went to the rodeo. I guess it took me two decades to accept the fact that boots and cowgirl hats actually are fashionable.
Last summer the kids and I took a couple local field trips, so I’ll join in when I can! (I might cheat and post last summer’s photos first.)
Oh, and I like the new header. (Although I was always partial to the red-and-white milk logo one.)
Yay, Keri! Hope you link up on Tuesday! (or some other Tuesday…)
I think I’ll probably do a few we’ve already done too to kick this off… but then again it is spring break and would give me a good excuse to DO something instead of just sit around here at home for the week!
Thanks. I knew the most recent one wasn’t really cutting it, but I never had time to mess with it again…
can’t wait to see all the fun things you do in st louis. we miss living there! as for me, since we’ve only lived in norman for a few months, I still feel like a tourist even when I go to walmart.
Ooooh! Sarasota is such fun. Beaches, the Ringling Art Museum (free on Mondays), G-Wiz (free, with a MOSI membership, which we have), beaches-beaches-beaches, walkable downtown, lots of restaurants, lots of parks and playgrounds, lots of state parks. But, I won’t be blogging it Tuesday, so will just let this comment suffice for now.
I hope you join in some time! I’d love to see all the great things there are in your area!
Norman…Hmmm. Surely there’s something you could post about! Doug’s house maybe? Ha!
After about 8 years in Hawaii, we’ve only got 3 months left here, and we’ve got quite a to-do list to get ready for this major move. I’ll keep this in mind, though, as we try to do some things here before we go. I won’t have anything for this Tuesday, but I’ll give it a shot soon. It’s a great idea.
No worries, Anne. I didn’t realize your move is coming up so soon! It will totally be fun to see posts from where you land next!
Great idea, Megan. My youngest is on a two week break from school and I was just thinking this morning of some fun (and inexpensive) things we could do together and thought I would check into museums, etc. in our closest large city (Raleigh). I’m sure there’s plenty we’ve not explored. Plus, there’s the whole Outer Banks that we’ve never been to! I’ll let you know what we find. It’s so easy to take for granted what is right outside our door. B. PS. LOVE the new blog look. Not sure how new it is… I’ve been way behind on blog reading! Blessings.
Does the post have to be brand-spanking new, or can it be an oldie? I don’t think I could have something ready for tomorrow, but maybe a future installment.
It’s a great idea, Megan! Lots of fun. It’s looking like this summer will be Staycation-style, simply because I will be too unwieldy with child to do much jet-setting.
Megan, this is a fantastic idea! I will likely not catch you this week, but very soon. We are 45 min from ATL and less than that from North Georgia’s mountains. However, I am originally a Missouri girl! So I will delight in exchanging with you and learning from your readers! So pleased to get acquainted. (Love using GWN in our homeschooling, btw!)
Super! Atlanta is a great place to highlight! We drove through last summer and definitely could have used more time there!
I’m hoping this makes me get out more to keep up with what’s going on around here. Last week I posted on the City Museum. This week… I’ve got to work on that one tonight!
Megan, I really think I want to participate in this. Even though we live nearby each other, I could definitely stick to my side of the river (St. Charles) there is so much to do up here too.
I love living where we do. I grew up here until I was 18 and lived at Mason and Clayton until I was 17 and my mom still lives in the house we bought out in Wildwood.
I think your “tourist in your own town” is a fabulous idea. Maybe we can make this catch on more.
I will try to make an effort to remember to do something this week that I can include. I have the perfect place in mind and its an excuse for me to visit.
Great idea, Megan! I wrote a little something about Lancaster, Pa. (http://www.soimarriedamennonite.com/2010/04/tourist-in-my-backyard-sassy-tassel-and.html) Thanks for letting us join in!
I’m glad I discovered your blog through the homeschool classroom. I’m going to start doing this on my blog. What a great and wonderful idea!
