Picture 18I wasn't sure what this was when it first arrived, but it turns out it's an awesome math brainteaser for kids!

It requires basic addition, but a whole lot of focus and strategy. The little blue triangles all have various dots on them . They are removed and then replaced in patterns so that, when the dots are added up, they match the number they are pointing to on the ball. But it's not that easy – sure, you can get one just fine, but you have to make sure they ALL work.

Think of it as a mathematical Rubik's Cube – once you think you've got it you realize you've screwed up something else. But for my kids, they really enjoyed the challenge.

The website claims this would be a good travel or airplane game. I'm not convinced that's a good idea, at least not for those on the younger end. Those blue trianges are easy to lose track of when they aren't attached to the ball. But for the home? This is an excellent educational boost and I'm confident in recommending it, whether you homeschool or not. Kids think they are playing…but they are also learning.

Win-win!

Disclosure: We received the IcoSoKu Junior for the purpose of review. I gave it to my 8yo for her birthday and she's really enjoyed it.  I keep a proper disclosure statement available here.
