I'm going to be honest here – I really try hard not to encourage early use/abuse of make-up in young girls. Y'all, their skin is still so naturally beautiful. Why cover that up?
My mother-in-law is a Mary Kay lady, though, and over the years my girls have been privy to a fair amount of samples and grandma-make-overs when we visit. They love that. I am growing in my own ability to not overreact when they pop up occasionally covered in mascara and lip stick. They are girls. They will experiment.
I know they will experiment, so I like to provide them with a few "approved" items with which to experiment with. Granted, we let our 13yo experiment a teensy bit more than her younger sisters. She's pretty limited to blush and lip gloss and has been okay with that.
I hadn't heard of the Hard Candy line of make-up and, when given the chance to try it out with my girls, said I was interested.
I think more than anything, the fact that I allowed them to peruse the make-up section for themselves and make some of their own selections was as novel an experience for them as is the actual wearing of said products.

When we got home, my 13yo immediately set up a portable make-over station so she could start working on all her sisters.
