Champions for Kids Simple Service ProjectI was pretty excited about getting involved in this new Champions for Kids Simple Service project because I know of an area with a pretty big need right now: Colorado Springs in the aftermath of the #WaldoCanyonFire.

I’ve mentioned a few times in the recent past our involvement with Eagle Lake Camp and how it was very nearly destroyed. By the grace of God and some really amazing firefighting, most of camp has been spared, though it has been evacuated for the duration of the summer.

The premise of this particular project is this:

How it works: Gather your family, friends, and co-workers to provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other dental care items for children in your community! Give the dental care items that you collected to an organization in your community that serves children (like a school, religious organization, or nonprofit) so that kids in your community can celebrate with healthy smiles and happier lives!

I am definitely a fan of this endeavor and would normally do it just as it says. However, in light of the great need in Colorado Springs right now, I said I’d like to be of help to that particular community during this fragile time in their rebuilding. I sent a message out to the community of people we go to church with here in Oklahoma City and in under an hour, $155 had been pledged for me to purchase items for the Care and Share Food Bank once I get to Colorado next week.

We did go and check out the Arm & Hammer Spinbrushes today at Walmart and picked up a handful.

We also checked out the OKC Thunder T-Shirt aisle. Shhh, it’s a birthday present for someone we love a lot!

And don’t forget the card aisle! We stayed there and laughed at several of the clever cards for a while!

But now back to the task at hand: Helping meet some immediate needs in the Colorado Springs area.
