That isn’t to say at all that I didn’t and don’t pray for my other three, but I offered up a very specific request to God on behalf of *this* child. I think my request started back in February or so and continued straight through to this day. What was my urgent plea? Please God, send a new girl to Veritas who will be in the 4th grade, be placed in K10′s class, and match her in height.
Honestly, I didn’t really care *so* much if they became good friends or not – I just wanted K10 to feel like she belonged a little better because someone else in her class was her same height. Sound silly? Maybe. But think back to the things that were important to you when you were 10. Still seem silly?
Today we met her. She’s in K10′s class at school. She’s cute and tall – just like K10. Not only that, today we figured out that they also share a piano teacher and are currently taking group piano lessons together. While chatting with her mom during this lesson, we also discovered the girls are both going to be in the same choir section this year.
Y’all, this is no small thing. In our educational circles, it is hard to match extra activities with other kids outside of school – most of the kids live in Norman and we’re in north Oklahoma City. I never see anyone I know when I go to the store, let alone to the piano teacher’s house.
Yet here we are. Not only did God say, “Sure, go ahead and have this one, Megan,” but he multiplied my request times three. Guess where K10 is right at this moment? Yep. She went home with this girl and her family for dinner and a spontaneous play date.
I don’t have any big BFF expectations on behalf of these two girls – K10 has good friends in other avenues too that I’m thankful for very much. But I think today started something very sweet in her life and experience at our blended model school and I’m suddenly feeling much more optimistic about her educational experience there.
And I’m suddenly also feeling a little sheepish at my surprise at how God answered this prayer so specifically and then some.

AWESOME… Thank you for sharing. I love it that this “blessing” was tied to nothing else except a simple request which your Father was only too pleased to grant. No rocks for bread or scorpions for eggs going on here! YEAH!!!!!!
Oh, yeah, and I meant to say – she is a beautiful young lady!
Thanks, Laura!
Such an encouragement to pray more specifically for my kids….learning so much about prayer right now!
And it’s a good reminder to me to pray more specifically for each of my kids as individuals as well. I’m usually a lot more apt to pray things like, “Please, God, make them all just stop doing ______”
I am so thankful to read this. It is an encouragement to me to hear how God answered your prayer as a mother. blessings to your sweet family!
Thanks, Susan! Hope you all are doing well these days!
That actually made me tear up. Thank you for posting and I am so thankful God gave her a friend!
Praise God! Emma and I miss your little (big) K10 very much! I am so happy for her.
Hi Megan,
Thanks for this post. We have a daughter, now 21, who was the tallest girl in her 4th grade class. God waited until high school for Kelsey to find her niche in school…volleyball. She went on to be an all american on her junior college team which went to the final 8. God answered my prayer in a different way and not as soon as I would have liked, teaching me a thing or 2.
I think something very sweet has sprung up too in your relationship with our Great God. Kelsey is now 6’2″ and very confident young woman. God does answer our prayers if we will only pray!!
