I love educational tools, resources, and websites, indeed I do. But I love them even more when my KIDS love them. And when my kids learn without even realizing it? EVEN BETTER.
Vocab Videos takes modern technology and uses it in a very clever way to motivate kids to -WHAT?- study vocabulary. Why is this such an effective tool? Watch this sample video here:
The official word on Vocab Videos is that they use short videos (like the one above) to “illustrate the meanings of 500 high value, frequently tested SAT, ACT and junior high/high school vocabulary words. In addition to vocabulary videos featuring entertaining characters and outrageous plotlines, our website contains extensive review material including digital quizzes and worksheets, a multimedia flashcard maker, and downloadable crossword puzzles for each episode.”
With my subscription, I was given a teacher account that allows me to register my kids (or co-op students, or whole class) with their own individual accounts, but I can monitor their progress by way of quiz scores and completed worksheets from my own dashboard.
There is an additional workbook component to the website that is available for an additional $11.99. I didn’t receive this to review, but wanted to make you aware of it.
The website subscription itself has several levels available for purchase. Everyone can receive a 1 Month Free Educator Trial, so at the very least go and sign up for that! The other levels of premium subscriptions provide all the resources mentioned above (minus the workbook) and give you unlimited access for a full 12 months. The levels are divided like this:
- Small (up to 20 students) $74.99
- Medium (up to 40 students) $134.99
- Large (up to 100 students) $254.99

You really need to experience it for yourself to believe it, but know this – my kids LOVE this. And they are newly inspired to make their own vocab videos which definitely works for me!
